~   Congratulations to Mike Jackson   ~    

 

       Multi-instrumentalist and children's entertainer, Mike Jackson, received a very well deserved OAM in 2015's Australia Day Honours.

As dancers, we first met Mike in the '70s, when he was playing in the Higgins Municipal Bush Band, along with Rowan Webb. and many of us brought our kids up listening to his cassettes of silly songs etc. - invaluable on those long car trips to folk festivals !  - below is the full citation -   

Australia Day 2015 Honours List

               MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

Mr Mike JACKSON       For service to the performing arts as a musician, composer and entertainer.

               Mr Jackson is a children's entertainer, author, composer, and multi-instrumentalist.

Has performed live to over 3 million children at over 10,000 events throughout Australia and internationally including the: Woodford Folk Festival; National Folk Festival; Sydney International Children's Festival; and the Queenscliff Music Festival, since 1974;

Plays 15 musical instruments including the: Ukulele; Harmonica; Spoons; and the Hurdy Gurdy.

Has released 36 albums which have sold over 250,000 copies.

Has published 14 books including 'Uke n' Play Ukulele'.
